Woodways

The Woodways residential care home in Barnsley, South Yorkshire is our females-only Home. There’re six individual, separate and self-contained apartments, all of which are made up of:

• Bedroom
• Wet room
• Lounge with Dinning area
• Kitchen
• Staff withdrawal room
  
  

We have included curved walls, anti-ligature fittings and hidden magnetic catches on kitchen units to negate the need for handles. Mermaid wall covering in all wet rooms help control the spread of infection as they improve the ease of cleaning. All furniture included is Keyworth weighted for additional safety and all apartments are designed to allow for further adaptations/changes to be made should these be needed.

Day and Vocational Services

All of the people we support have access to our day and vocational activities area and this comprises of:

• A café – initially “manned” by our staff, the eventual aim is that people who live with us (and who have an interest) take over the running of the café and are paid for doing so as a precursor to gaining employment externally. This is set out in a Bistro style with tables and chairs to facilitate social interaction.
• A snooker/billiard table
• A sensory TV
• Seating areas for reading
• A quiet relaxation room with a focus on lights, music and comfort
• A Life Skills training room
• A room for the delivery of ADB Therapy

These facilities are designed to further aid and assist people on their pathway towards greater independence.

In the enclosed garden, there is a section reserved for people to grow their own fruit and vegetables. We are aiming for the people who live with us to eat a nutritious and balanced diet and complete the circle of planting, growing, picking, preparing and eating what they have grown.

Externally the site is accessed via a robust, locked gate large enough to allow access for fire engines and waste disposal vehicles etc. There is also a smaller pedestrian gate for easy access and egress.
